Search engine optimization has been very popular as of late.
Web administrators spend hundreds and thousands of dollars just to get their
sites easily located via search engines like Yahoo! and Google. However, it is
a known fact that having your website on top of the search results is not
enough to generate the much needed web traffic. Quality link building is a very
effective way to achieve this, as having a website link to yours can easily generate
pageviews.
There are several methods for effective and quality link building.
A press release for one is effective as news articles are often regarded as highly
authoritative and more so than blogs. However, there are but a limited number
of newswire sites that accept articles with links in the main body, and as
such, you should expect plenty of competition as a drawback.
Another is guest blogging. Blogsites with high authority and following and allows
dofollow links are great places to post articles with links to your site. That
said however, those that only allows nofollow links yet have a great following
should not be ignored, as they can give you actual subscribers and potential
link partners.
Participating in forums, particularly those of .gov and .edu
(government and education respectively) domains, is also a good way to garner
visitors for your website. Join in conversations while dropping links to your
site whenever relevant. Take note though, that you should avoid spamming – both
for courtesy’s sake and to avoid the almighty banhammer, the latter of which
can force you to find other forums or make a new account and thereby waste your
time.
Social media such as Facebook and Myspace can also be used
to attract visitors to your website, though this should take more time than
those previously mentioned. Find the best social network where you can attract
the right crowd then connect with people that share the same interest as you.
Keep your page or profile updated, perhaps through certain social media tools
that allow you to get a feed straight out of your blog. Interact with the
community you have created and whenever possible, share links from them. Last
and not the least, and for the same reason as in the previous paragraph, never,
ever, spam.
These are but a few proven quality link building methods,
all of which should be helpful in gathering an audience for your website. You
should always keep your links relevant aside from being plentiful, if you want
to improve your status before the search engines that is.
